AEK Fans Riot After Team Wins Greek Cup

Holy crap. Greek soccer fans do not mess around. This past weekend, clubs AEK and Atromitos faced off to dispute the Greek Cup final at the Olympic Stadium in Athens. The match ended in a 3-0 lopsided win for AEK, which caused fans of the Athenian club to lose their collective minds and act like barbarians. What happened wasn’t your run of the mill hooliganism. Nah, this stuff got straight up out of control. Fans of the winning squad stormed the pitch with more than eight minutes to go in stoppage time, threw flares (and other projectiles) at the families and friends of Atromitos players, and acted like barbarians. Pretty disappointing stuff from a country that was supposed to be the cradle of modern civilization.
