Colorado Rapids Meet With Obama, Obama Compares Himself With Messi

The Colorado Rapids paid a visit to President Obama at the White House to be congratulated for winning the MLS Cup… back in November of 2010.* At the press conference, Obama talked about being a soccer dad, of how kids would just go after the ball without really having much of a clue as to what they were doing. So, in other words, he was kind of talking about the MLS (just kidding, guys).

After his quick speech, the team presented Obama with a number 10 Rapids Jersey. The number– which was chosen to depict the year when they won the title– is usually reserved for a team’s best player and/or captain. The President, being aware of the number’s significance (gotta give him props for that), then compared himself to Lionel Messi, the world’s best living soccer player.

*Does it strike you a bit odd that the President would wait so long to invite the champions of the MLS to the White House. And people wonder why the sport isn’t as big in this country as it is across the world.
