Will Ferrell’s “La Casa De Mi Padre” Is In Spanish

No, you’re not reading the title wrong. Comedian actor Will Ferrell is putting out a movie called La Casa De Mi Padre (for those of you who don’t speak espanich, it translated to The House Of My Father), and from the looks of it, it’ll be entirely in Spanish. The film, an obvious throwback/tribute/mockery of Latin American telenovelas, also features Gabriel Garcia Bernal as the villain and Diego Luna as his brother. Casa De Mi Padre will also have the obligatory hot Latina girl as the love interest (Genesis Rodriguez from the Telemundo telenovela Doña Barbara). Below is the film’s synopsis:

“Armando Alvarez (Will Ferrell) has lived and worked on his father’s ranch in Mexico his entire life. As the ranch encounters financial difficulties, Armando’s younger brother Raul (Diego Luna), shows up with his new fiancé, Sonia (Genesis Rodriguez). It seems that Raul’s success as an international businessman means the ranch’s troubles are over as he pledges to settle all debts his father has incurred. But when Armando falls for Sonia, and Raul’s business dealings turn out to be less than legit, all hell breaks loose as they find themselves in a war with Mexico’s most feared drug lord, the mighty Onza (Gael Garcia Bernal).”

The trailer looks promising, but then again, what Will Ferrell movie doesn’t look good in the trailer? We’re not too opposed to some white (albeit hilarious) dude making a mockery of telenovelas–something we grew up watching– but like most Ferrell projects, there’s a real likely possibility that this movie will suck harder than Kicking & Screaming. Plus, something tells us that La Casa De Mi Padre will rely too much on cheesy stereotypes (there’s a cartel kingpin, everyone!) and dick & fart jokes.
